Combat in Last War: Survival is based on multiple systems working together. Heroes, troops, formation, skills, equipment, research, and bonuses all influence the final result.
Combat Power is only an indicator of strength. A player with lower Power can still win by using better heroes, correct troop types, stronger upgrades, and a better formation.
This guide covers the basic combat system. Advanced mechanics such as Rally calculations, Hero Skills, Damage Calculation, and Battle Reports are covered in separate guides.
How Combat Works
Every battle follows a basic sequence:
- Your march enters combat.
- Heroes activate their skills.
- Troops exchange damage.
- Damage is calculated using stats, bonuses, and formation.
- The battle ends when one side is defeated.
Combat is influenced by:
- Heroes
- Hero level and stars
- Hero skills
- Equipment
- Troop type and tier
- Research
- Drone upgrades
- Exclusive Weapons
- Decorations
- Temporary buffs
Marches
A march is a group of heroes and troops sent to perform an action on the World Map.
A march contains:
- Heroes
- Troops
- March capacity
Marches are used for:
- Attacking enemies
- Joining rallies
- Reinforcing allies
- Defending locations
- Fighting event targets
A strong march requires both developed heroes and upgraded troops. A powerful hero lineup with weak troops will not perform at full potential.
Combat Types
Solo Attack
A solo attack uses only your own march.
Common uses:
- PvE enemies
- Weaker targets
- Event objectives
- Testing formations
The result depends on your own account development:
- Heroes
- Troops
- Research
- Equipment
- Bonuses
Strong targets usually require rallies.
Rally Attack
A rally combines multiple players into one attacking force.
A rally contains:
- Rally Leader
- Rally Members
The Rally Leader is one of the most important factors because their combat development has a major impact on the final rally strength.
Rallies are commonly used for:
- Zombie Bosses
- Alliance wars
- City battles
- Strong enemies
- Major events
Reinforcements
Reinforcements are defensive marches sent to support another player or location.
Used for:
- Defending allies
- Protecting cities
- Alliance wars
- Strategic locations
A rally is used to attack.
A reinforcement is used to defend.
Hero Formation
Hero placement directly affects combat performance.
Heroes are positioned in two rows:
Front Row
Front-row heroes usually absorb incoming damage and protect the rest of the formation.
They require:
- Strong defensive stats
- High survivability
- Proper protection abilities
Back Row
Back-row heroes usually focus on damage, support abilities, and skill effects.
They require:
- Protection from the frontline
- Enough time to use their skills
- Proper positioning
A good formation balances:
- Survival
- Damage output
- Hero synergy
Using strong heroes in the wrong position can reduce their effectiveness.
Troop Types
Last War has three main troop types:
- Tank
- Aircraft
- Missile
The basic counter system:
Tank defeats Missile
Missile defeats Aircraft
Aircraft defeats Tank
Troop advantage can heavily influence battle results. A weaker army with the correct matchup can defeat a stronger army using the wrong troop type.
Combat Power
Combat Power does not represent the complete strength of an army.
Two players with similar Power can have completely different results because of:
- Hero lineup
- Hero stars
- Gear quality
- Exclusive Weapons
- Research
- Drone level
- Formation
- Troop composition
Optimization is often more important than raw Power.
Main Combat Factors
Heroes
Heroes are the core of every combat formation. They provide damage, defense, buffs, special skills, and combat stats.
Hero strength depends on:
- Level
- Stars
- Skills
- Gear
- Exclusive Weapons
Your main combat heroes should receive priority when investing resources.
Troops
Troops provide the foundation of your army.
Important factors:
- Troop tier
- Number of troops
- Training upgrades
- Research bonuses
Higher-tier troops provide stronger combat performance.
Research
Research provides permanent improvements to your army.
Important combat research includes:
- Attack
- Defense
- Health
- March capacity
- Troop bonuses
Research differences can create a large gap between players with similar Power.
Drone
The Drone provides additional combat bonuses.
Drone upgrades improve:
- Army stats
- Combat effectiveness
- Special abilities
A developed Drone becomes an important part of a strong account.
Equipment
Hero equipment improves combat performance through:
- Attack
- Defense
- Health
- Additional bonuses
The strongest equipment should generally be assigned to your main combat heroes.
Battle Results
When analyzing a battle, Power difference is not always the reason for victory or defeat.
Common reasons for losing:
Wrong Troop Matchup
Using a troop type that is countered by the enemy can heavily reduce your effectiveness.
Poor Formation
A weak frontline can cause your damage heroes to fall too quickly.
Weak Hero Synergy
Heroes that do not work well together will perform worse.
Missing Upgrades
Research, gear, skills, and drone development create large differences over time.
Common Mistakes
Focusing Only on Power
Power is useful, but it does not show the complete combat potential of an army.
Developing Too Many Heroes
Spreading resources across too many heroes slows down the development of your strongest squads.
Ignoring Troop Counters
The wrong troop type can lose battles even with higher Power.
Neglecting Research
Research provides some of the strongest permanent combat improvements.
Using Random Formations
Hero positioning can completely change the outcome of a battle.
Understanding Combat
Combat in Last War is not only about having a bigger army.
Winning consistently requires understanding:
- Which heroes to use
- How to position them
- Which troop type to send
- When to use rallies
- Which upgrades provide the most value
The combat system is built around preparation, optimization, and understanding how every mechanic works together.
