Season 1
The Crimson Plague
A virus outbreak reshapes the map - Virus Resistance, Professions, and the first Exclusive Weapons.
The Crimson Plague is the first major seasonal expansion in Last War: Survival, and the one that sets the template every season since has followed. A virus outbreak transforms the map: infected zombies and giant scorpions appear across the landscape, and Virus Resistance becomes a second stat that sits alongside raw Power - a strong squad can still get shredded by an infected target if Virus Resistance is too low, so it can't be ignored the way some other stats can.
What's new this season
Season 1 introduces several systems that carry forward into every later season, which makes it worth understanding well even if you're joining later:
- The Profession system - a specialization axis with its own dedicated skill tree. Engineer leans into economy and building speed; Warlord (also called War Leader) leans into combat, march capacity, and rally strength. There's no wrong choice, but it should match your role in the alliance.
- Genetic Recombination - a hero/gear enhancement system layered on top of normal upgrades.
- Seasonal buildings - Protein Farms and the Virus Research Institute, both of which feed Virus Resistance directly and only get more expensive the longer you wait to start them.
- Military Strongholds - alliance-held territory that expands your zone of control and produces value for as long as you hold it.
- City warfare - the alliance-vs-alliance conflict layer that most of the season's later weeks revolve around.
Exclusive Weapons - the headline feature
The single biggest addition this season is Exclusive Weapons (EW) - UR-only weapons, one per troop type (Kimberly, DVA, Tesla), each unlocked through its own dedicated Battle Pass. Getting your main carry hero to EW Level 20 is the single largest power jump available anywhere in the season, well ahead of anything else you could spend the same resources on. If you only prioritize one system this season, make it this one - and pick the troop type that matches your actual squad, not whichever pass happens to open first.
Structural changes and choices to make
Around Week 4, Builder Alliance mode unlocks - an irreversible, alliance-wide choice that swaps City warfare for facility construction entirely. This is genuinely a different way to play the rest of the season, so it's worth a real conversation with your alliance leadership before anyone commits the whole alliance to it. There's no switching back once it's done.
A quieter but very real free-to-play opportunity: if you already have a 5-star Mason, this season lets you promote it all the way to UR - one of the most resource-efficient power jumps in the game, since it turns an investment you may have already made into a top-tier hero without starting from scratch.
What to watch for
- Season length: roughly 7 weeks, so pace your resource spending across the whole window rather than front-loading everything.
- Season end: when Crimson Plague closes, server transfers become possible for the first time - worth knowing if your server's population shifts significantly by then.
- Priority order for most players: Virus Resistance buildings first, Profession choice early, then EW shards toward your main carry as they become available.
